President’s Message – 2019 – 2021

Dear Alumni,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to our Federal Government College Enugu Old Students Association (FGCEOSA) website.

The primary objective of our association is to help our alumni and our alma mater. We will do this by promoting close relations between the school and alumni, ensuring that programs are initiated and developed for the benefit of alumni and the school and assisting the school in its development and pursuit of academic excellence.

For those who don’t know, membership of FGCEOSA is free and takes effect immediately upon graduation.

As your elected executives, we hold these truths to be self-evident; that our shared experiences at Federal Government College Enugu (FGCE) connect all of us in a very special way, and that as the vagaries and pressures of life take hold (family, work, the economy), we tend to lose touch with those outside our immediate environment who we share this special bond with. Consequently, we firmly believe that a revitalized and vibrant FGCEOSA will ensure that this does not happen, by helping us to remain connected to those friends and to the vast resources available within our network.

There is no gainsaying that the FGCE alumni family is huge. The school graduated its first set of students in 1978. Given the federal character of its admissions policy it encompasses a network that spans every single state in Nigeria and a reach spread across every continent on earth.

It will be unconscionable for us to allow this special connection with our former FGCE classmates and the school to end after our graduation.

This is why as your elected leadership, we have tasked ourselves with harnessing and integrating this colossal yet untapped network. We are confident that the rejuvenated association we are building will offer many benefits to alumni. We have many initiatives planned for the coming years and many projects in the pipeline to increase member benefits and interaction, student welfare, and our local and global reach and impact as thought leaders.

Later this month we will debut our monthly “FGCEOSA Alumni Spotlight.” This online segment is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of alumni who are truly making a difference not just in their respective fields, but in philanthropy, community service and leadership—all hallmarks of the well-rounded education that FGCE bestowed on us. Featured alumni in the Spotlight will embody the FGCE spirit in their contributions to their communities and will serve as role models for current students as they prepare to take the next step after leaving FGCE.

There’s much more in the works, so stay tuned to our website, your inbox and to social media for more ways to get involved.  I also encourage all of us to think of ways we can support the school to whatever degree we are comfortable with.   And I speak not just about financial support.

Our various alumni associations, chapters and sets have ongoing student career and academic mentorship programmes, leadership programmes, teachers’ upskilling programmes, and often volunteer their time at school academic and social events. These programmes are designed to not only support the students throughout their stay in FGCE, but also to help them develop the personality and the skills necessary to keep pace in the competitive job market they will face in the future.

As for financial support, fund raising is a key aspect of what we do.

Given the shortfall in the Federal Government’s capacity to maintain and upgrade facilities at the school, various sets, chapters and FGCE alumni associations have embarked on a number of capital-intensive infrastructure interventions to improve student welfare. These projects have been funded through the active support of all of us, and we remain eternally grateful.

So, thank you for visiting us today, and please re-visit this site often for updates on alumni news and events. I encourage you to explore all that we have to offer to stay connected and make yourself and FGCEOSA stronger.

I also invite you to visit the school premises in Independence Layout, Enugu, as often as you can to assess how the school is faring. Please do not hesitate to stop by at the Alumni Liaison office located on the second floor of the school’s Administrative (AD) block. The Alumni Liaison Officer, Dr. Mrs. Chikezie, and other support staff will be very happy to provide you with any administrative support you may require. Also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and support various interventions that the different alumni associations, chapters and sets are undertaking at the school.

Finally, let me thank you all for your relentless support. We look forward to the continued assistance and active involvement of the entire FGCE alumni to carry out our noble activities.

Thanks once again.

You have my best regards as always.

MEET & GREET

There is nothing quite like a reconnection… Particularly one which spans decades.

‘No ordinary Meet-up.

There’s nothing quite like that first hug, pure genuine lit up joy in the eyes, ‘beaming when beholding another or many whom you’ve not met in the flesh since prepubescent years…

There’s nothing quite like a good old FGCE Global Reunion Meet & Greet: An event centered around reconnections with each other and with our roots.

Aptly Themed – O42 Las Las ??, our Meet & Greet event will feature poolside hospitality, breezy and tropical cabana style.

‘Mouthwatering local cuisine, the release of 50 Golden Lanterns launching our Anniversary,  entertainment from a Master Spinner, our very own Dj Xtacee(!) and for one-night-only, a performance by the famous Udoka Cultural Troupe!

Venue: Hotel Sunshine Enugu
Dress code: Ethnic on Blue Denim

Bring out your Ankara, your Kente… Dig up the Tye & Dyes or Raffia séf ?? and team with blue denim ?????? in any combination.

Let’s make it a night to remember.
